Where did the superstition of Friday the 13th first originate? The origins of Friday the 13th being unlucky are not clear, but most finger-pointing goes to Christianity, particularly, to Eve offering up her “apple” to Adam on what was yet to be labeled “Friday.” Add that to the Last Supper in which the 13th guest was Judas, and you begin to get a fairly good idea of the roots. The actual superstition, however, seems to have really come into vogue sometime during the 17th century. But lest Christians get all the credit, we have to acknowledge that the Hindu religion has long believed that to gather 13 persons together under any circumstances is bad form and will bring about unlucky consequences.
